Catherine's Diary

26th August 2007

Only 6 days left on the countdown, and the planning seems to be coming along nicely! Bookings have been confirmed, things have been collected, more things have been identified that need to be bought. Busy, busy, busy!

Rob and I went out on a date yesterday - dinner and a movie. We haven't had a lot of those in our relationship, and thought we ought to have one quick whilst we were both still single! It was a good evening, with a good movie and I ate far too much food, so hopefully I will still fit my dress on Saturday...

20th August 2007

Now we're starting to get organised! This weekend we've finalised(ish) the flowers, confirmed details with the photographer, and redesigned the wedding cake. And to top it all off Mum, Rob and I have just sorted out the seating plan! Phew! I'm feeling worn out with all this thinking and planning... I've worked out that the Tuesday after the Wedding will be the next time I can get out of bed at my leisure without something planned that has to be done! Some of my friends tell me that this is what life is like with children and that I better get used to it. I'm clinging to the belief that even children need a lie in sometimes... (I'm sure I'll be disillusioned someday...)

The Order of Service has been scrapped (different Minister, different Order), so you'll just have to follow instructions. I'm in the middle of making Hymn Sheets so that you have no excuses for not knowing the words. Printing, cutting and folding I can do, then it's off to the Creative Dept (Mum and P) for additional twiddly bits. Should look nice, and be useful! Aunty Kay arrives from Canada this week (Hooray!) and may be drafted in to assist the Creative Dept. As Mum, Rob and I had to help with the preparations for my cousins wedding when we went over there, I think it's only fair!

It's getting late, and I need to get my beauty sleep, or the facial I had this weekend will have been wasted... Let's hope the rest of this week will be as productive - we're confirming details with Sparkford Inn on Thursday!

17th August 2007

Fortnight tomorrow!

Rob survived his Stag-do, and even managed to bring home a pretty dress and hat, which I'm told he was made to wear. I also had to lend him some make-up remover... Perhaps it's best if I don't know much about what happened, but it would be interesting to see some of the photos!

Planning is starting to gain pace. Mum is well on her way making favour boxes (thank you!), and the Hymn sheets are being prepared. I'm off to try my dress on again tomorrow - despite eating whatever takes my fancy (cakes, biscuits, Jan's homemade Lemon Curd (highly recommended, if you get the chance!), chocolate), I've lost a pound since the last fitting. Perhaps planning a wedding is good for weight loss...

10th August 2007

This is starting to get scary - how can it be 4 weeks since I last wrote something in here?!

So 3 weeks to go, and I'm waiting for the third thing to go wrong... Since the last post, Sandra, our minister, has been unwell and has been advised to take six weeks leave. As you may have realised, this means that she can't do our wedding. Fortunately my second choice has agreed to take her place, so the wedding will still take place! Our thoughts are with her, and hope that she will be able to make it the wedding as a guest and share our day.

Next to fall was Millie, my niece and little bridesmaid. She took a tumble, and managed to break her arm. Fortunately, again!, she has bounced back with vigour and the plaster cast should come off the week before the wedding. Rob away this weekend on his stag do, go-karting in Southampton. I'm slightly concerned how many pieces he will come home in...!

On the positive side, I've been for my first dress fitting with Steph - and it fits! Even better, Steph has suggested that I really shouldn't lose any more weight, so no last minute dieting, and I can eat without counting every calorie! Yay! Rob does like to remind me that because I don't need to lost weight, it doesn't mean I can put it on...

We've confirmed the menu with Sparkford Inn, and hope that everyone will find something they like to eat! Our next challenge though is to fit the guests around the available tables. Don't be surprised, if you are coming to the afternoon reception, to find a complete lack of seating plan! It's getting to the time of point where it needs to be done, and no-one really wants to start it. It has been suggested that we either leave it entirely up to the guests (free-for-all!) or draw a diagram of the tables, put sticky dots for the chairs, then throw the names at it and see who sticks where!

Tomorrow we're off to sort out the flowers. I never thought that could be so complicated! There are so many types of bouquet that you can choose for all different sizes of person. And then you have to pick your type of flower! No-one tells you how many decisions you have to make when you plan a wedding!!!

14th July 2007

I really don't know where the time goes! How can it be the middle of July already? Only 7 weeks to go...

Plans have progressed a little since the last Diary entry. The Debenhams List is online and working, and we've added an Argos one too (see the Gift List page for details) as there are some things the Debenhams relly don't sell. The Bridesmaid dresses are progressing nicely. 'Tricia and the girls tried them on last weekend, and they are looking good. The girls weren't impressed because they weren't finished yet, but then it takes a lot to please little ones!. 'Tricia was pleased though, and the colour certinly suits her... Rob has ordered the suits for himself and the Ushers. I was there to check the colour matches, and can confirm that, despite Rob's threats, he has not ordered anything in velour.

Rob and I had a meeting with Sandra, the Minister, this week to discuss the order of service. We've made a few decisions, so I should be able to add some details to the page on the ceremony.

Still lots to do though, so I better get on with it...

20th May 2007

Today, Rob and I spent our afternoon in Debenhams. They said it only takes a couple of hours to put together a Wedding list, so we set aside just a couple. Then we stopped for lunch with Mum and Dad, and showed them the suits that Rob is thinking of hiring, then wandered around debating which colour towels we wanted. Next thing we know the store is closing! Where did the time go? What on earth did we put on the List? Fortunately we can edit the List online, add stuff and take stuff off - Rob has mastered the art (Coffee Machine!), but it's still defying me. Probably for the best, or the List would change every couple of days! There is some stuff they don't sell, so we may put together a little Amazon Wedding List (for the observant web-user). Apparently they do stuff that's not CDs or DVDs!

14th May 2007

Rob and I went to listen to the choir that Mum and 'Tricia are in tonight, they're called Hymneo. We've asked them to sing at the wedding, so thought we ought to check out some of their reportoir. As usual they sounded good, even when I asked them to sing a piece which they hadn't prepared. They will be providing the half-time entertainment, and may be some other pieces during the service. The Choir Mistress (Linda) is concerned that with Mum and 'Tricia in the wedding party, it's going to unbalance the tone. I might have to let them sing too, although I'm not sure it's possible to stop them...

I am having trouble choosing a processional piece of music - there's just so much to choose from, and nothing seems to be perfect. The recessional was easy - there's really only one choice (I think Rob agrees!), but it's a shame that the bells won't start pealing along with it. Next time, I'll get married in a church with bells!
